How to grow your business - a not so obvious insight from a junior golf camp

Hand drawn cartoon of a golf scene

Our 9-year old grandson attended a golf camp last week. I was particularly keen to see what skills they would be teaching the kids and when I saw what they were taught, I was flabbergasted.

I was expecting drills to hone their putting, instruction on the proper grip and how to swing the club - with lots of feedback based on how they hit the ball.

There was none of this.

Everything they did was somehow a game that ensured 14 kids had fun and wanted to come back the next day. In talking to the club pro who ran the camp, he said they got a lot of the games from the national golf body that oversees golf, whose primary goal is to grow interest in the game.

Interesting isn’t it ? Growing interest in the game doesn’t happen by teaching kids all the skills they need to be a good golfer. Growing the game comes by ensuring the kids have fun when they are out there playing. As a result, when the kids have fun, they will naturally learn the skills to get better.

This makes total sense.

Think of how this applies in your workplace and growing your business. What are you doing to ensure your people are having fun at work ? Please share your best practices in the comments.
