87 and counting - how to make the most of 2023

On September 22 there were 100 days left in 2023 and I felt compelled to make the commitment to stop drinking alcohol for the rest of 2023. 100 days alcohol-free. Don’t get me wrong, I love a glass of Pinot or Chianti but I have been noticing my sleep suffers terribly when I have a couple glasses of wine and I just don’t feel as well. I’m not a doctor but I think a couple glasses of wine makes my heart work harder—and I consider myself to be in good physical condition.

I’ve been aware of the poor sleep and pronounced heart rate for some time, so why did I make the commitment now ?

My decision was inspired by two clients who independently said, “I decided to give up alcohol for a while and without expecting it, I feel so much better. I don’t now if I’ll drink again.” while the other said, “As of September 22, there are 100 days left in the year. It’s time to make good use of those 100 days.”

I put their two ideas together and bam—actually it wasn’t quite bam. It took me a week of noodling to get the two ideas together. Anyhow, I’m 13 days in and feeling great !

If you could wave a magic wand, what health goal would you want to achieve ?

As of the publication date of this post, there are now 87 days left in 2023. Enough said.

What behaviour change will you commit to, so you make good use of the 87 precious days remaining in 2023 ?

Postscript: The not so obvious lesson here—hang around people who strive to be the best versions of themselves.
