Guest Contributor for week of April 14 - Tia Upshaw

Why gratitude is important to me

I’m Tia Upshaw — a mother, entrepreneur, speaker, and changemaker. Everything I’ve built came from resilience, hustle, and heart. I’ve created businesses, opened doors for other Black women, and stood tall in spaces that weren’t made for me. Through it all, gratitude has been my anchor. It’s how I stay grounded when things get chaotic and how I celebrate even the smallest wins. Gratitude reminds me where I came from and why I keep going. It’s not just about being thankful — it’s about honoring the journey, the growth, and the people who helped shape me. I don’t just lead with power — I lead with purpose, and I stay grateful every step of the way.

Nail biters

Sports are a wonderful way to experience inspiring emotions. Yesterday's finish at The Masters was a magnificent moment - and I was a spectator !

Today I’m grateful for:

  • hopes and dreams I have for my family

  • standing witness to the spirit of competition and healthy sportsmanship

  • that empathy is hard-wired into us as humans - I think this is a big deal

What are you grateful for today ?
